Term : Langmuir, Irving (1881-1957)
|
Definition : An American chemist who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1932, Dr. Langmuir coined the term Â?plasmaÂ? as applied to ionized gases, studied the electrostatic plasma oscillations which bear his name (Langmuir waves), developed the theory of Langmuir probes, and applied his research to develop numerous inventions for General Electric, particularly in the field of lighting.
